Dental Veneers are a small feature in the dental industry, but a big feature in the smile industry. Everyone deserves a perfect smile, one that they love and love to show off. A smile is the key to a person’s confidence, and veneers are here to help. Although you may not love going to the dentist, you will love your dental veneers.

Dental veneers are a permanent process, with permanent results while creating a beautiful smile.

What they are: Dental veneers are like shells for your teeth. They are thin, teeth-colored, and often made of porcelain. The shell permanently attaches to the front surface of the teeth to improve their appearance. Some cosmetic concerns that are often improved by veneers are: chipped, broken, discolored, or smaller than average teeth. When choosing to improve your smile, often people opt for six to eight veneers together, especially on the front teeth, to create an even, symmetrical smile.

Procedure: Like most other dental procedures, dental veneers can take some time. First, they require at least three visits to the dentist; one for a consultation and two to make and apply the veneers. The good news is that one tooth or several teeth can be veneered at the same time, in the same visit.

The first step is painless, diagnosis and treatment planning. It is also your time to be the most active. During your first visit, you explain to your dentists what results you want to achieve. Then he/she will evaluate if your teeth are good candidates for veneers and explain to you the process and/or limitations. During this visit, your dentist may also take x-rays or make impressions of your mouth and teeth. Easy right?

At your next visit will be the preparation. This is the most sensitive step. Your dentist will remove approximately ½ millimeter of enamel from your tooth surface, which is the same amount that the veneers will add. To do this, you and your dentist will decide on the need and type of anesthetic you may need to numb the local area. After that, your dentist will make a model or impression of your teeth. These models are sent to a lab which makes the veneers. It generally takes between 2-4 weeks to make the veneers, so enjoy the wait. For unsightly teeth, you and your dentist can opt for temporary veneers.

The final step is bonding, which starts by making sure the veneer fits your tooth, laying it over top and examining size and color. The veneer will most likely need to be trimmed and adjusted to size several times, so your dentist will continue to trim it. The color may all be changed by the shade of the cement used. Next, your dentist will prepare the tooth itself by cleaning, polishing, and etching the tooth. This roughens the tooth to allow for a stronger bonding process, and trust us, the bond is strong. The special cement is applied to the veneer, and then to your tooth. Your dentist will move the veneer as needed until it is positioned just right. Once it is perfect, they use a special light beam over the veneer to activate special chemicals that harden and cure quickly. This process will seem lengthy, but as you near the end, your dentist will remove any excess cement, and finally check your bite and make any final adjustments to the veneers.

Of course, no dental procedure is complete without a follow-up visit. At this time your dentist will examine how your gums are responding to the veneers, and triple check the veneer’s placement. And then finally, your new smile is complete.

Benefits: In the simplest way, veneers give you the smile you deserve. But they are so much more than just for physical appearances. Veneers can fix cosmetic problems including: broken or chipped teeth, severe discoloration, gaps in the teeth, smaller than average teeth, and pointed or oddly shaped teeth. Another benefit is that veneers are “permanent”, lasting more than a decade. This means that dental veneers are the investment to improving your confidence and happiness for life.
